Press Conference - 10/11/2024

Ahead of our clash against Fire Fox FC later this afternoon, interim manager Ethan Lawes held a pre-match press conference at our training ground to answer some questions from the media.

He spoke about injuries, the opposition, and our recent form.

Here is everything he discussed:

on whether Kieran McCoy will be available:

No, it's too early for him. He's getting a scan on his knee and so we're hoping for the best. We should know more next week.

on the other players who missed last week's game through injury:

Foles is fine. He picked up a knock in the Cayley game earlier in the day last week so couldn't play. He also got a hit to the head yesterday, but there was no concussion so he'll crack on.

Ben [Loebus] is training well. We're hoping to have him back soon. I don't think we'll see him this afternoon though.

on any other absentees this week:

Mason [Murray] isn't here this weekend, same with Matt [Demitri]. They're big players to be missing for sure but we've got a big enough squad now to cope.

on the opposition's defensive issues of late:

It's something we've picked up for sure. We won't really approach the game any differently to any other though, we know we can score goals. We can't get complacent.

on if having a game in hand is an added pressure:

We tend not look at the table, to be honest. We want to win every game. If we do that then we'll win the league, regardless of other results. So games in hand don't really matter to us.

on the reasons for our recent form:

We have a huge squad this year. Every game we can call upon top, top players even if there are people missing. It makes a huge difference.

on if there is anything to improve on:

I never like conceding first. We found ourselves in that position against Bakewell Ballers but we responded really well. We need to find ways to stop that happening in the first place when we're controlling games, because these matches are quick, it's fine margins.
